The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.” As the debut season of the popular series coming to an end—and a second season already in development—the writers' room recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus. On the Overwhelming Fan Response Anyone might to get swayed by the rampant praise and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both. “It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.” Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show. “We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by online forums.” “Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds. A Pressing Query: Does the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus? So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats. “We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.” Then again, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort. “I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.” Then again, why not reference the classics? “I'd love for Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile. Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
