American-Palestinian Youth Liberated After Nine-Month Period in Israel's Custody

A Palestinian-American youth who spent a nine-month period in Israeli detention absent formal charges gained freedom.

Mohammed Ibrahim had just turned 15 during his detention in February throughout the West Bank territory, where he was visiting while residing in Florida accused of stone-throwing against settlement residents, allegations he repeatedly contested.

The US state department applauded the news of Mohammed's release.

Currently aged sixteen, required hospitalization for treatment immediately after release, according to close relatives.

They said he is visibly pale and thin, while battling health issues developed during imprisonment.

In a statement, family spokesperson spoke of the family's "tremendous relief".

The uncle, Zeyad Kadur stated the family experienced "enduring a dreadful, continuous nightmare" throughout the past nine months.

"At this moment, our priority is providing Mohammed with urgent medical care he needs after experiencing harsh conditions and inhumane conditions for months."

US officials said it would continue to extend consular services to the teenager's relatives.

{"The Trump Administration has no higher priority than the safety and security of American nationals"," it added.

A group of American legislators had signed a letter to diplomatic officials and the administration, demanding more be done for his freedom.

Mohammed's parent, with four children managing a frozen treats business based in Tampa, previously claimed his child admitted guilt regarding stone throwing because the soldiers beat him.

He had not seen nor direct contact since February, learning information solely about his son's condition through judicial records.

Mohammed was held without charge in Ofer prison in the West Bank.

It is also home to mature inmates, including individuals found guilty for major terrorist activities and murder.

An estimated 350 Palestinian minors in security custody being held in Israeli jails, per correctional service statistics.

Numerous remain uncharged and human rights groups, and international organizations, report instances of physical abuse and torture.

Following Mohammed's release, Mr Kadur said the family would also continue fighting seeking justice for their relative their cousin Sayfollah.

The 20-year-old dual US citizen per medical officials succumbed to assault by Israeli settlers during a confrontation during summer.

At the time, military authorities reported authorities were looking into reports a Palestinian civilian had died.

Mohammed and Sayfollah were employed together at their family's ice cream business in Tampa, Florida.

No one has been charged regarding Sayfollah's death.

"We expect the American government to ensure our family's safety," family representatives emphasized.
