A Mountain of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays offer a plethora of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the updates: unwrapping gifts, indulging in holiday treats, and harnessing patience techniques to refrain from yelling at family members. Hopefully you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. However, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many exciting developments came out over the break, and if you missed a few, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt further production. The show will return with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. Yet, the key visual for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now the community is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been airing for a while, and its sixth season was a further outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season

Immediately following the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not been disclosed yet.
